Our Traditions

It’s a well known fact that every nation has its own traditions and customs and our group as a part of a big nation has developed its own traditions, most of them are seem to be very stupid, but really important in our lives. Here they are:

“Money Money Money!!!”Very often we hear these words from our monitor. It can mean only that a groupmate’s birthday is coming… so we have to buy a present for the hero of the soon coming occasion. So called “tax collection” usually takes one week, during this week the monitor calls to give her money using very funny phrases just in order not to make it obvious to the birthday person:
-I’m getting married! The entrance tickets cost 15 rubles
-We are collecting money for the children in Africa
-Let’s help Green Peace Organization!!!
-We need money awfully bad to get the gypsies out of Udmurtia!!!
-It’s high time you paid your taxes!!!!!
DONATE MONEY!!!

Birthday traditionWhen somebody has a birthday, s/he usually brings a cake just to have a sort of a party with the groupmates. All of us gather together in our canteen at a round table to drink a cup of tea & to eat a piece of cake. The hero of the occasion is to cut the cake. And here we have a tradition – while the knife is being stuck into the birthday cake we are making a wish for those 5 seconds… These wishes usually come true… soon… 8-))

Arguing when someone doesn’t want to go out with the group.
It’s very difficult for us to gather together (apart from birthdays), especially when it comes down to going somewhere – to a club or somebody’s place. Our interests differ and so do our plans, that is why during the 3 years of our studies we have had only 1 or 2 parties when the whole group gathered together.
But we all enjoy arguing about that matter. Maybe it makes all of us think that we do care about relationships in our group… It makes us look so “grown-upish”.

Run! Run! Run! – (canteen racing)At 11.10 or 14.40 after the bell rings (after the double period) our group is literally running to the canteen overtaking the other students just to be first to line. When anybody from our group stands in line it means that all the 14 members of 2847 are lining… what a misfortune for the other students… 8-)))

Когда я кушаю – я говорю и слушаю (while eating I’m speaking & listening)
Dining with most of the groupmates at a round table in the canteen is also our tradition. We usually join several tables together & have our dinner discussion about vital issues & news of the day. After dinner Max (Max! And nobody else!) takes away the dishes & we go to the lesson… by the way if we are late for the lesson after dinner we are late also together.

Arranging weddings. Wow, that sounds pompous!Actually we have arranged only one wedding and only a part of it, but we hope it’ll become our tradition. The part of the wedding that we made is called a ransom. And almost every wedding in Russia has it. That is when a groom comes to his bride’s place on their wedding day, but the friends of the bride do not want to give her away that easy and the groom has to take a set of different tests to receive his bride. Sometimes these tests can be really challenging – e.g. to walk on the wall or something of that kind. We arranged the ransom in the form of a fairy tale and that was fun!

Our Whereabouts

We are all studying in Izhevsk. We wonder how you will pronounce this letter combination of the last word. This city is situated in the heart of Russia. Izhevsk is famous for its public transport, the most punctual transport in the world. Izhevsk is the motherland of Mr. Kalashnikov, who is the inventor of AK - automatic gun. And it is the home city of the sweetest ice-cream in Russia.
